I only mention this because I noticed your mention of Furnished Finder, which is the only platform I list my MTR, and FF caters to 30+ day stays. 

Active real estate investors who can't get comfortable not being in the driver's seat, people who just don't like real estate as an investment, those who can't get comfortable with the risks, those who just don't understand syndicate investments, those who have heard bad things about this type of investing from others, and people who have invested in syndicates and experienced bad results.

In short, you need to stay there a year as an owner-occupant and then you refinance into a conventional, rent both units and then you can use the FHA to do it again on a new one.

It's hard to stay that today. 

Employment wise, Aultman Hospital is consuming the SW part of Canton and Timken Steel keeps plugging along with some smaller manufacturing companies staying steady, but outside of Aultman I haven't seen any significant job growth or companies moving here, and if they do, they usually aren't coming into the City.  

The time period you select is whatever you are comfortable with.

I think I'm speaking for myself in terms of a price point that I'm personally not comfortable with over there since it is not in my own buy box yet. 

Bridge is flooded 8 feet now so have stay on our side for 2 days.  

Clearly, you wouldn't be comfortable investing there and that's totally fine.
