There's no way to discuss investing without acknowledging the role government plays in that arena.

I was in a similar position as you are, and was able to maneuver into a property management role in Boston.

This benefits the buyer more, since depending on how it is written, it can lock in a future price and if the buyer would benefit from exercising the option he may, if the numbers run against him he can back out. 

I have mainly focused my job search on Assistant Property/Project manager roles as I believe those would best fit my current skillset and experiences.
