It was in fairly good condition, and I KNEW I could easily lease it out, or lease sections to various business, or sell it for double or triple what I paid. 3 years later, having not even received an offer to lease AT ANY PRICE, I sold it for $25,000 LESS than I had paid.

It's all come together pretty quickly in the last year and a half so I'm still coming to terms with it myself.The house hack is a four bedroom 2 bath house that my wife and I purchased as our first home with the intention of having it produce at least some income.

The homes in this area are 3 bedroom and 1 bathroom with full unfinished basements. 

@Jordan G. if you're not putting any bedrooms down there, generally speaking you should be allowed to finish a basement.

How many bathrooms, bedrooms, and garages are in demand?

Also a lot of side by side duplexes that are locally called "double blocks".
