I just finished reading "The House Hacking Strategy" by Craig Curelop, and I think that gave me some good introductory knowledge on house hacking, but I know that I still have to do a lot more research.

Utilizing an attorney sans title insurance can work well - IF the attorney is knowledgeable and experienced in real estate transactions and the parties are ok forgoing title insurance.  

Your desire for control and liquidity are likely the two biggest assessments you need to make first, as this will start to narrow down your choices very quickly.
