One went right through the siding and into the mechanical closet, another one right through the master bedroom window!

If I had the money, I would install laundry in the closet of the smallest bedroom and make that a laundry/office.

Honestly, you can't buy a closet in Los Angeles for what a house costs in some parts of Berks County. 

Is it in a closet or is it possibly in the attic.  

Maybe have the central storage closet be tornado resistant, or create a tornado resistant mini basement for regions with tornado threat.

We added a private entrance/exit, turned 1/2 bath into shower full bath, added a closet and a kitchenette, so our entire lower floor is a fully private 2 room/1 bath STR, including laundry.Any issues arising from sharing a home with travelers?
