Did you get any documents signed and notarized? 

Verbal is a nice initial, "yes I'll lend to you" but you definitely want all details of the loan in a legal document, signed and notarized by both parties.

If you're completely comfortable with them, email them the lease and have them get a notarized signature on the lease.

I’d advise you to put whatever agreement you come to in writing and get it notarized.
