Hello Christina - we recently acquired a home in Banner Elk that's just over a mile from the Sugar Mountain entrance.

Maybe the OP doesn't perceive it this way, but it seems like people are trying to trample over the accomplishment, insinuating he is some rookie who is fooling himself.

Over the past 15+ years in this business, i have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. 

If you were able to build equity over time, it could be smart to sell, pay off your loan, and use the money for another venture (flip, investments, etc) if it is truly bleeding you out.

From my experience working with over 400 investors, I’d recommend starting with house hacking—ideally a fourplex if you find a good deal, but a duplex works too.
