I feel like I can't protect against a situation where I get sued (e.g. someone slips and falls) and they "only" choose to go after the liability insurance on the property's policy, leaving the umbrella policy to pickup anything above/beyond the liability from the STR property. 

Don't fall for the masterminds or hustle and grind type of content, know yourself and then look at the most direct path.

I think this falls on the borrower in most cases.

When you are deciding what type of loan to take out, be sure that your use meets their requirements otherwise this can fall into loan fraud which comes with hefty fines and jail time.  

So if a slip and fall happens, tenants could look up that in their lease, and sue both me and my 401k trust.
