Any programmable thermostat that has the ability to lock the screen with a pass code should work.

I would recommend that you screen your tenants and have them complete a background check with a company of your choosing and not just accepting Zillows in house background check that some of the tenants already have.

They don't have to share the screening results, but they should share the actual application filled out by the tenant.
