If you only ever focus on FI, and especially FI in 5 years, you're likely going to stay so overwhelmed and discouraged that you don't actually start on anything.

Many brokerages can't have a PM on staff due to insurance anyway.

Feel free to inquire about their staff qualifications if it's a larger organization.2.

Where I'm at in California, if staff (the planner) is being obstinate, then the other two routes are 1) hire a land use attorney or entitlement consultant and if they feel that you have a case to build just one home without going through the subdivision process, then they may be able to compel staff in a way you can't, or 2) talk to an elected official who may be able to sway staff to give you what you want.

I guess I am here because I feel lost and overwhelmed and want to learn how to make the most of this situation to achieve my goals in a safe way over the next 1-5 years if possible.

It may seem overwhelming at first, but stick with it everyday and little by little you'll get to where you want to be.  

I overwhelmingly support alternative building methods, but there's generally a reason that they stay alternatives and never make it mainstream.
