Your Grandmas idea of Being a Real Estate Agent is a good idea, but it might be months or some cases even a year before you start seeing any income from your sales and in the mean time you need to find a way to pay your bills and save some $$$ and there are recurring fees involve in being an Agent..Your immediate goal should be finding a job that will pay you the most, you can work in a W2 and invest in REI.
