You have the ability to sell while limiting your capital gains tax because you lived in 2 of the last 5 years. 

Although I have a high income my assets are not immense and the insurance is protection against future earnings/STR  I will probably buy a primary home in next 5 years but happy for now where I am.  

I have been investing in Memphis market for years and from the area.

I just checked my 3 unit properties and and they are all 8-20 usage every 2 months and they have had water meters for 10+ years

So it looks like you would need around 4-5 years to get to break even by selling those stocks and paying the tax now. 

I spent my first 6 years in the financial planning industry working for a firm that had previously sold a lot of privately held REITS that went south.
