Undoubtedly, others will trot out Don Campbell and the RIEN network (though many like his publications and organisation, I'm find them a little too sales oriented).I would suggest Douglas Gray's "The Canadian Landlord's Guide: Expert Advice for the Profitable Real Estate Investor" as a good primer.

If you remain resident in Canada, in augmentation of Eamonn's advice, I would suggest you consult with a CPA - and possibly attorney - experienced with Canadian tax law and business organisation when holding foreign assets.Having your U.S.A. business (and assets/properties) be held and operated within a U.S.A. corporate entity will provide you with control over the repatriation of retained earnings.

Better luck and better prospect with Marriott and Hilton brands, to get some good management companies - ultimately costing you 20% or more of the gross - when you add their extra-expenses of over staffing and unwanted maintenance and repairs bills, and, using their unused-resources to bill "your property" for services etc.
