It has been really educational for me because we have people from all over the US with all types of experience to learn from.

It sounds like you're really ready to dedicate time and energy into educating yourself about possible investments and I love that.

Self-education and finding a mentor or partner to learn from are much better options.

It's a whole lot easier to keep an educated eye on repairs and repeats with dedicated internal technicians. 

I work with Property Management in Houston but can recommend some great networking/educational events for you :) Check out Space City REI - there's monthly meetups with an educational speaker relating to real estate investing and there are plenty of Investors looking for Wholesalers out there! 

On the other hand, I’m hesitant to simply pay down more of a property, as we don’t need the immediate cash flow.Fortunately, both my wife’s job and mine are recession-proof, which allows us to be a bit more aggressive with our investments.I’d really appreciate advice from investors who have experience with frequent moves or military service.

You definitely don't need to be an agent, but it helped my hands on education at the time!

Analyze deals, build your network, and educate yourself constantly.If you have access to unique resources (like a VA loan, FHA Loan, or 401K), use them to your advantage!
