Is Alabama/Birmingham good?

Something similar to the Birmingham one here on BP (see this link https://www.biggerpockets.com/...). 

I’m about 4 years from retirement and regretting not venturing into this world sooner.I’m currently going back and forth on whether to focus on short term rentals in Florida (Destin, PCB) or long-term single family homes in the Birmingham, Al area.

I'm looking to invest in Birmingham due to its cheap prices.

With the inclusion of personal usage for the travel, that may very well push you over the threshold into disallowance.I'll also say that I personally think that having a conference in Cancun versus a much more remote destination such as Birmingham, Alabama or even fully online may also provide some additional ambiguity.
