New metal roof, water heater, windows, HVAC, etc. all the boring big ticket expenses have been covered for us.

With how long they lived there and their age, I would ask them if they have family to help them move their treasures, and if not, you hire insured professionals to do it. 

I used to assume that the PVC drain pipes were not susceptible to roots or other issues like the old clay metal pipes.

The fee would be a lot less than that too of they had just secured the main entrances and doors with plywood or something like a $200 metal security door from Homedepot...it's just common sense..not a lot of people have it these days..

@Chris K.I talked to the county treasurer and was given name and address of the person who was paying the taxes.

All it took is watching a video on Youtube, a trip to wonderland aka Home Depot (that place is now a little less intimidating after I spent 30 min roaming its endless aisles looking for bolts). point of this post is instead of asking someone to fix it for me I chose to do it myself regardless of how little I knew about it (had no clue how that metal rod just magically hangs to the wall hahaha). 

I just rewired a fairly small 3-bedroom 1-story home, charged $21,000 and when all the tallying was done the cost for wire, metal flex, new light fixtures, 200-amp distribution panel, permits, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, plaster and stucco patching holes, sales commission, labor and overhead was about $15,000 leaving me with a $6,000 profit (30%).

I have to remember to install the metal brackets or pan ($10-25) to the studs to make sure it doesn’t vibrate itself off the wall.

I have been inside Class C's that were as whistle clean and neat as the (Full Metal Jacket) Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island.
