Also one thing to keep in mind is that you can protest your taxable house value every year and thus, reduce your taxes.

If it's been there for over 20 years with no protest, you might have some leverage there and the new neighbor might take a small amount and give you the easement rather than having a judge say you get to keep it and he gets nothing.

One officer was actually an investor herself and had a few multis in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago so she gave great insight into area.My point is that these deals are still available in Chicago even with higher taxes (certain areas of city qualify for 19% tax abatement if rented by section 8) and I protest taxes every year on every property- but I had to lose 12 straight bidding wars over 6 months before I got lucky.
