Hey @John Heffner - Great questions, I would say this requires a deep analysis of exactly what you're looking to do (I was/am in a similar situation where I have heavily appreciating SFRs in Sac that I've chosen to begin 1031ing into SFRs elsewhere.

Of course it is yet it’s the struggle we have chosen as “investors” it’s very rewarding and you can’t make up some this stuff; pissed you off then but funny now which mitigates the challenges.

Financially, I think you can argue either way -- personally, I funded my 401k for a long time and am happy I did, but there are certain situations where I wish I would have chosen to have taken the taxable income instead and invested it.
