I believe you have to get to know people in your area(make friends, meet real estate agents, or even construction workers can help you out with areas that are getting more and more fabricated).

.   :^) I come from the production world and I can tell you that much of the "drama" is fabricated, the timelines are compressed, and the numbers are fudged. 

As far as looks are concerned, the top veneer of eng'd is real hardwood, only the composition of the underlay is fabricated therefore is not much of a difference in look once it's laid.
