Tal - You would not have to take your national exam again but you would need to take the state exam in the state you would want to become licensed in.

If there were some FAA examiner or inspector was giving advice I certainly wouldn't be tossing in my uniformed thoughts, or suggest he just fly low under the radar and stay at his private landing strip to avoid requirements.
