It is about $250 to do - and you can pick the color from just about any national brand color chart. 

I've found some laminate/vinyl stair caps, but they're ridiculously expensive for what they are and we're trying to match the floors and the caps have very limited color options.If you've done something that works, would you have any pictures to show as well?

Hi Wesley,There are furniture repair finish restoration contractors who use hot melted color sticks and stains to blend scratches in fine furniture. 

Paint the cabinets a solid color that coordinates with the counters (which look new) and replace the missing drawer, add cheap cabinet hardware, a microwave/hood combo and do a tile shower surround or replace the surround with one that isn't so drab.

I wouldn’t ever pay extra for better cabinets or special color countertops.

So, color me confused.

Nothing special, just a durable white color that won't get scuffed up with high traffic/renters.2) Handyman - someone who can fix a few small things eg: closet door, sealing tiles, grouting, etc. 3) Property manager - I live too far away so won't be able to head to Seattle to manage the property, finding a tenant, etc.

They don't care about the latest trends and paint colors, and therefore they won't pay more for those amenities. 

Neutral or beige color for walls.

But I guess for me I'm having a hard time knowing that in such an old house you're just hiding the old issues by dressing it up.
