Unless something has been grandfathered in as part of the zoning, you would likely need to petition for a change in the zoning.

Figure on 6 months to finish the house, if everything goes right, the contractors show up when they are supposed to, the materials arrive when they are supposed to, the weather cooperates etc and you can count on probably a year long project.

Initially our landlord (or representative from the real estate organization our building is owned by) was responsive and told us that she would send out a maintenance repair which didn't arrive until I followed up with her a little less than a week later about an update.
