I mean, if you leave out a plate of tuna fish on a plate and a dish of water and leave for a week or two, you don't expect to come home to find all kinds of bugs all over it?

The only question would be how much to the tenants waste on laundry and dishes.

Also has the added benefit of working in a power outage2)  A dish washer could be a deal breaker to a tenant, but I'm not sure who your target tenant is. 

It will need to be furnished or at least mostly furnished though because that's what guests expect (dishes, linens, etc.) 

Tenant of 2 years moved out and left the place barely broom clean, but with food and dishes in the kitchen cabinets, lot of nail holes in the walls, the floors in dire need of mopping and marks on the walls.

Read your HOA documents carefully and look for all violations (no satellite dishes visible from street, no overgrown shrubs, no cars parked on street overnight, etc.). 

Also the cleaning fee can detract short term (1 day) bookings, meaning you get longer reservations, and spend less time with turnover (laundry/trash/dishes, etc).
