I think the situation was different in the mid 90's when you could rent a place in Park Merced with section 8.With regard to quality of tenants and I can only speak for the russian-speaking immigrants I know who have section 8 -- they tent to be older, retired or semi-retired and will probably skip a meal first rather than be late on rent :)

The application and a credit score are important, yet in some cases they don't even have a credit score since they are new immigrants; in other cases their score is crap due to a divorce or student debt issues from years ago they are working on improving, etc.

@Mark ProchovsWelcome Mark - be sure to set your BS meter to high as I'm sure you'll be contacted by a # of scammers.I'm not an immigration expert but think I have more experience in the matter than most as my wife is from Kenya - if you come with that kind of money you may get in easier than most....1st thing you should research is a good immigration attorney before you do anything else.
