Whether is the added property management fees, or the lack of access to inspect repairs on your own which could potentially increase your repair expenses as you wouldn't be able to see exactly what's wrong with a repair and allow you to hire a good contractor that won't over charge you for a simple repair.

If you direct hire your property manager at least they won't have financial incentives to churn your units and over charge for maintenance and they will have financial incentives to do return your calls and do it your way.
