Maybe you are using the app from an Apple device rather than using the website via a web browser; if that is the case, you can do those things using Safari.

just have another tab on your browser open to one of the online dictionaries.Or use a browser that has spell-check built-in to the browser (although I have seen many occasions where an incorrect word was in a text but the incorrect word was spelled properly).
