By capping the taxable value increases for homestead properties, local governments may need to compensate for the lost revenue by increasing taxes on other types of properties, such as commercial buildings and rental properties.

Tougher to make rentals work at the moment but I hope that will change soon.

I recently had a neighbor's rotten tree fall through the fence and into the yard of one of my rentals. 

You spend a lot of time and money having people do this work, and at the end of the day you don't net any more income compared to a long term rental.

One challenge to manage is being able to clarify for lenders on those rentals (if you have them) which amount of the premium should be paid for each rental so that they do not include the entire premium into their escrow analysis, inflating your monthly payment on that rental. 

Currently, we own a rental property where both a family member and a close friend are tenants.

. - Of course, you may need a Property Management Company to handle each rental when you move again.
