From my experience (I could be wrong) there isn't a format but the estimate should list details like the materials to be ordered and the hours of labor needed for each repair project (for example the kitchen cabinet installation or exterior doors) along with a cost listed for each line item.

I've been searching for a while here on BP but have not found a thread related to my situation:I've been renovating and renting a property for just over 2 years and may be in a position to sell/close in the next 30-60 days.I am trying to cut-off major projects at this time to make a clean break, however we have committed to replacing windows in one of the units (windows are already ordered), with total project lead-time of 45-60 days (windows have been hard to get for the past year).In the event we have a closing date PRIOR to window installation, how should we handle paying the contractor?

Separate considerations:a) My friend works for this painter and I have been trying to pay her on the side to do the work under the table.b) I am trying to get the kitchen painted by June 2nd because I am having the cabinets installed and the kitchen is already demoed.c) I currently have a contractor working on the bathroom and she agreed to paint the kitchen but she has been very slow.Thank you for all the advice!
