Under contract in Michigan,I was planning to keep home in my name and when needed (repairs are done and ready to rent) get an umbrella policy (primary residence in florida) of a few million for ithowever I am being told as I am out of state I cant get an umbrella policy on the home, and if I could would be limited to 1milInsurance people - advice and info please.

If you would like more protection, require them to get an Umbrella for an additional $1M-$2M.

Meanwhile, your risk can be personally managed with a homeowners/landlord insurance policy, umbrella insurance policy, and keeping the property in good upkeep.Hope this helps.

So worst case I use him and get an umbrella policy but I’m much more interested in putting this house in my LLC.

He complained to me he was told the insurance company's lawyers only represent the insurance company and he was told he better get lawyers to represent himself personally.I decided to used my money I saved from not setting up all those LLC's, and instead spend it on buying several million in umbrella liability insurance instead.

@Carson Wright Hi Carson, while others may disagree with me I’d personally say that while you’re starting out unless you’ve got a bunch of assets elsewhere you’re really fine going with just using your own name at least for rentals at first and having enough insurance coverage in the form of your regular homeowners and an umbrella policy for probably $1,000,000.
