Leadville is a cool historical town (Doc Holliday lived there for a while) which also means it has an aged housing stock with poor quality construction (miner's cabins built 140 years ago).

No mineral deposits left while it dries. 

But wow, some mineral oil to bring out the little highlights, and you've got a killer backsplash for about $1.25/sq ft.
