So...the best places in the area for me based on my own location are:Saugerties, Woodstock, Phoenicia, stone ridge, catskill or hudson.

Even though I live nearby to the Poconos, I prefer investing in the Southern US (way higher year-round occupancy rates & way more money to be made) but if you’re really intent on buying a property in the northeast, remember that the 30 million people in the nyc area tend to vacation more in the catskills, hudson valley, berkshires, adirondacks & green mtns (vermont) more than the poconos.

Most of the skiers from the NY/NJ/Philly area go to the Catskills 2 hours away in NY (much higher elevation & taller mountains), or up to Vermont. 

Very few people come in from out of town to ski here, when they can easily drive to the nearby Catskills instead.

I am a new investor, from the Catskill area, no longer living there but looking to invest.

So, I started looking at Catskill and Hudson.

Kingston is trying hard to revitalize, Catskill has great returns on c grade properties, liberty has really great rental returns and climbing with the employment jump from the Monticello casino.
