I see that you are from Paraguay, do you know if Paraguay offers construction goods, such as Porcelain floors, laminate flooring, kitchens, bathroom fixtures, electrical assemblies, toilets, sinks, etc?

Porcelain tub and tile on the walls for that tub/shower combo.  

Typically only porcelain tile and the tend to have more texture.     

Make sure it is porcelain.  

The rest comes down to the tile - you usually find some pretty nice porcelain 12x24" tiles for around $2 psqft, or find some cheaper ceramic at a clearance store for perhaps less than $1.The real cost is in the labour, in my market, a tiler would usually charge $700 and up for tiling a shower surround.

I can buy 8 mm laminate for about 99c a foot or porcelain tile for about the same which would work out to about 1000 sq ft .I am estimating about a buck a sq for laminate install or 2 bucks a sq for tile What is the best solution?

Best depends on the situation, but in terms of durability, porcelain tiles are more durable than ceramic tiles.

So as soon as the renters in the basement left for work I started ripping up my carpet in the entrance of the house so I could replace it with some nice porcelain tile.

After following advice I found on BP, I used $.79 per foot porcelain tile from Floor and Decor.
