As far as flying (tax deductible too) You can do that and if it's in the states the total trip shouldn't cost you more than $2000 all in with lodging. 

Personally in this year alone I've helped clients get through divorce, leave their job to care for an elder parent, and leave the country for a mission trip with a cut in pay.

Unless you have a very strong team on the ground, I would not recommend investing in EC.Hi Vadim,Seasoned investor but made a trip down to Cleveland a couple months ago to check out opportunities there and hence made the decision to invest in East Cleveland mainly for cash flow.

But i took a personal trip to toledo last summer in an effort to expand my property offerings and took a hard pass on the whole city within hours.

A trip to Detroit would be much cheaper than a mistake for a new investor

Add AC and you need a good HVAC tech...if they come from the next town, again their availability may be limited and they may charge trip charges.Do you know this town well? 

PS I finally had a Rueben ball last trip into Cleveland  gut bomb for sure :) Yea definitely some artery cloggers.
