A 2K 3BDRM2/BA home in Orange County can easily top 600K even with the market depreciation the last few years.People come for the sun and surf but the fine print gets you.Can I definitively say I'll be here in 10 years, even if I'm generating 200K+/year?

My salary is decent for an engineer my age, flexible and I certainly don't hate going to work as I get to see things most people in this world won't- but I often find myself having real estate on the mind whenever I have free time at work, much like how other people like to surf sports and celebrity news sites.

My most vivid memories are walking along the Gold Coast and body surfing in Sydney.2005-2008 (Seattle, WA): I spent part of my time doing RE deals, and the rest of my time pursuing hobbies and interests such as paragliding, programming projects, and some travel.2011-2012 (Delaware, New York, Connecticut): I did lots of back-road cycling, 8 Broadway shows, 1 cruise to Bermuda, 1 18-day self-guided cycling tour through France, and some ballroom dance lessons.

Unfortunately, here in SoCal, I see lots of "I want to work one or two days, charge you for a week's worth of wages, then smoke pot and surf the rest of the week" contractors. 

How does the surf in your stomping grounds in Cali compare to Hawaii?
