Morning, All we are attempting to install iron mesh or the iron cones around our entrance gates at a particular property in Chicago.  

According to the City of Chicago, "All dwelling units must have either 1) one or more windows that face directly to the outside, and/or 2) a door that leads directly from the unit to a balcony" (this is assuming your basement is not connected with an above-ground entrance).

Does anyone have any experience converting a Single Family home to a Multi Family, like converting a basement or garage that has a separate entrance and running utilities to the new unit for a bathroom and kitchen?

I prefer to find houses with separate entrances/airbnb potential.

Painted all the inside of the units (walls, trims, cabinets, doors, etc) and the exterior of the house (front door and entrance, trims, etc).

We have people parking in our STR garage and it is a tight entrance.

Specifically, I am considering getting a house where each bedroom has a private entrance and private bathroom.

The house is secure with bars on the windows, cameras and security doors at each entrance.
