So I would tell you that 2-5 rentals is a piece of cake to manage - even if working full time (we kept 2 corporate jobs until we were up to 20 rental units.)The other thing I would tell you is that there are MAJOR control differences between being a limited partner in a syndication - where you are more akin to a passenger on the bus which is your investment, versus full control of everything when managing your own rentals.  

Were they all new or you were still on the promotional rate?

We, thankfully, had a friend of a friend connect us to a delivery person, who directly picked up flooring and delivered to us, then we worked with flooring company to get a credit back on price.Or, we did Ikea cabinets, which came with both more pieces than we ordered, and not all the pieces we ordered.  

The sponsor's largest source of revenue is in the promote, which in most cases isn't realized until the sale. 

Thoughts. Many syndicators may be underwater. So he may not be the only one. But the Wall Street Journal had a favorable feature on him in July. 

However this forum is not for self promotion. 

I will say this is a strategy that is promoted on these forums frequently. 

This was despite my explaining that I would be making a cash purchase and already owned residential rentals in the area.Eventually, I found one or two agents who were enthusiastic to work with me although not after first promoting their own noncompetitive pocket listings.

I have every empathy for folks who are hurting especially from instances that are from outside of their control, but filing bankruptcy to get out of debt that she chose to sign up for and promise to pay for the sole purpose of getting ahead faster (her story, not mine) seems less than ethical and Bigger Pockets promoting it is questionable.
