Installing a traditional a/c would either be an air handler or a furnace with the ac coil on top and an outside condenser both options would need duct work.  

We have installed quite a few & believe it or not the Goodman furnaces & a/c condensers have been the least problematic.

It took them almost 2 months to replace the condenser.

Then we heard that the supposedly high end a/c condenser was a constant issue & required warranty work for a couple of years by the 'soon come' lic guy until they sold the property.Now we have guys we can trust.

For some systems, we place pellets in the catch pan to prevent algae growth which, in turn, prevents clogging of longer condensate drain lines.

I had ductwork installed, all in it was 10K per unit, ductwork, furnace, condenser or, electrical, plumbing.

My price for a 3 ton, 13 seer system, condenser and evaporator coil, is around $900, add $500 for 80% furnace.

re: CAPEX, make a list of things that will break and cost money.For each item, list the expected life of the item, and how much it will cost at the time of replacement (eg the price of a condenser 10 years from now).
