Instead of turning the garage into two rooms, what about having it be an entirely separate unit (like an Accessory Dwelling Unit)?

Other terms would be city zoning ordinance, planning and zoning, zoning guidelines.this will tell you if your property allows an accessory dwelling or a full on second detached dwelling (some allow duplexes but not 2 separate units).

As long as it’s not on wheels and set on an actual foundation it is considered an accessory dwelling unit(ADU) and may require a form called Article S to be filed to permit use of course you still want to check if your county has additional permits required.

Luckily, no structural damage and it came with two just as tired accessory dwelling units.

I've been doing research after seeing so many accessory apartments listed as multifamilies in long island.

@James Loffredo you could do the bulk with IKEA furniture but supplement strategically, whether with furniture or accessories/decorative items that you pick up from vintage stores or at garage sales.

They cost more at the start, accessories are more expensive, there are less accessories for Macs, and you're signing up to live in Apple's walled garden.

Hey folks, I actually had the idea to post here because of the latest episode of the BP podcast, about Accessory Dwelling Units.

If this home was appraised on its own with just an acre of land  it would have a market value of close to $1m, but because it is considered an accessory dwelling and obsolete they are giving only an $80k adjustment.
