If most people are flying to your destination, it's much harder to get 15-30 or more people together, and those larger homes stand less of a chance.While I've done a bit of research in Galveston, definitely not enough to answer your question.Another angle to consider if it's legal from a short-term rental and ordinance perspective, buy a home with a number of large bedrooms, and create exterior doors to each of them, put in a kitchenette with a microwave and mini-fridge, and rent them separately, in particular if most/all of them can have en-suite bathrooms. 

Exactly what @Mark Hoover said...... how many horrible tenantts get virtually "evicted" but it never goes far enough to actually have a legal recorded eviction.

I fly back once or twice a year to look things over and that is a tax write off. 

Up until now, was flying F-18s with the Navy.

Tenant shall keep the Premises free of pests, including without limitation, rodents, fleas, bed bugs, ants, cockroaches, gnats, flies, and beetles.

There are many rental units in the city that are not up the standard of habitability and fly under the radar. 

Invest based on fundamentals in areas that will grow or be stable and with conservative underwriting and you'll be flying back to South Africa in first class to visit friends and family in no time. 

And short of flying there I’m trying to learn more about that market/ area.

Once everyone gets past the trust issues and any otherissues then the deals and paperwork can start flying!
