C was transferred to the county where 'his' houses are and I am still working to get the transfer of title restored to my name without a glitch.

In my area, someone being foreclosed on can pay off the debt right up until the auction takes place and restore their title.

Furring out walls to increase insulation, using reclaimed and refurbished materials (see if your local Habitat for Humanity has a ReStore), and high efficiency furnaces are great ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the building.
