Project milestones are a key performance to meet scheduled deadlines.

It's an awesome life milestone but also VERY scary.

We had those 25% or so a few years ago but we kept thinking that we should wait for me to get over some career milestone and then decide what we want to do, maybe save more, etc; but it was a bad idea to wait. 

Break the scope into milestones so you control risk and get to a  point where you can do something with the house/GC if need be.For example:  Milestone 1.
