I like the concept of house hacking, as I do not have constrains (i.e. kids in school) to keep me from moving every 12 months to fulfill any living on property requirements in a condo or 2-4 unit home.

From a legal standpoint, the seller and seller's agent essentially said "I agree to sell you this property that you have indicated you need to owner occupy, but I am not going to do it in a way that will allow you to fulfill the legal requirements of your financing."
