To start with, you should probably focus on a few key metrics.

I wasn’t looking to add value or find something off-market because the time and effort just didn’t seem worth it compared to focusing on my career.

I find that this helps them to really be able to focus (others, not so much).Second thing I have them do is consider hiring me (or somebody else) to keep their books on a monthly or quarterly basis. 

Unfortunately, some PM companies do tend to focus on bigger portfolios, leaving smaller investors feeling overlooked.
