It depends on what your need horizon is.If you are talking about money you need in the next six months, a credit union or online site like Ing would be the best.If you are talking about money you won't need for 20 years, lots more options open up and are independent of corrections due to any kind of 'flation.Personally, I think investors get too worked up about the micro-economic conditions.

And if you are a Ramsey guy who is debt averse, then you might be more comfortable just rolling that inital cash you had into paying off the debt rather than going further "in the hole" with a payoff horizon that's longer than the 5 years you initially set out for yourself.

Prepayment would yield cash flow instead of a decreased horizon for the loan.I agree that it is a lousy use of cash though.
