In addition to what Jeff said above, make sure you consider the impact of moving water supply/drain lines -- depending on where they are coming from (likely below), you'll need to get access to that location to move things around. 

For basement units (I'm assuming that one of the units is in the basement) I'd want to carefully look to see what the water issues are down there: is there a french drain or other system?

They are all just unnecessary drains on profit. 

How many flushes go down the drain every minute someone is in a shower.

The septic system needs to be replaced because of the water table in our location and the damaged drain field.

And this can be a substantial drain!

You need to turn off the elements so they don't burn when you drain the water.
