Their new online system is really confusing, and I have had to call customer support for help each time I needed to wire/ACH funds because I could never figure it out on my own (and their customer service chat box isn't set up yet). 

Can’t remember the exact figures but the U.S. and its close allies have 10x the amount of gold than all of the BRICS countries combined.

You are correct, that this has long been the conventional figure used to estimate cost for buildable sf in NYC. 

Although instead of knowing about roofs and rehab.. land folks need to know about:Zoningwhere is the power  is there internethow deep are the wells or is its an area that water is super toughDoes it perc. and or how expensive are septic systems.Wetlands Etc.Now if you target land with all city services then its just dead simple.. figure out the retail value and buy below it and do your flip..

But overall, I agree with you that people who can figure out how to purchase, should because they'll pay similar in monthly expenses and get the benefit of owning a place.

Go figure.

For perspective, outside of SF you can easily get a place to rent for 2500 or so, figure another 1500 for day care.
