Also means no regular heat source.We always leave the cabin with a good wood supply in the winter, fire starters, lighters and such to ensure they will have a heat source.  

Being made of regular and many times upgraded housing materials instead of that lighter fiberboard stuff, energy efficient windows, and even wood studs gives you more of solid feel.

It's not just the porosity and sealing issues, well-chosen granite is not nearly as vulnerable to that as some of the trendier lighter more open grained granites that people felt compelled to use by their designers. 

some sub floors are lighter then others so a good underlay and Carpet in dry areas should help to reduce the noise. 

I would repaint the dark rooms a light color like in the other rooms with the lighter, neutral colors.It's a really nice place.
