I have worked part time cooking but took the summer off due to some short term health problems. 

I do it all the time when I'm cooking, washing dishes, driving, etc.

For cooking, there's no comparison. 

You get too many cooks in the kitchen and you'll always end up somewhere you don't want to be.

Are there any underground problems like old oil tanks from houses or other problems lurking?

The home used an underground oil tank (huge red flag for me).

I listen to BP podcasts or suggested books while I'm in the car or cooking!
