Im sure you realize that there are at least 100 shades of white/cream out there.-  J - I normally don't like to paint masonry but you can't fix ugly masonry colors without it.

Look closely for the non-obvious like wicking up inside of upper Sheetrock and places that are darker and could be damp.

Hmmm..for modern, I think you can sand down and restain grey or have multiple shades of brown to have that outdoorsy look to it which is pretty high end from what I see.

I think the darker stain on the cabinets would look better to provide contrast since the floor and counter are light.
