Well from the pics i wouldnt call it a whole gut job or at least my definition of a gut job most of it has sheetrock already patch it up scrape off old texture and re texture whole house.

Just pay your GC to fit in a new one and patch the drywall when complete.As you mentioned, this is a tiny detail...it's good to keep an eye on costs, but not good to nit pick every last dollar spent.

We don't have stucco in my area, but basement cracks are common as well as cracks in bricks that make a zig zag pattern to the ground.I'm not sure how hard stucco is to patch, but for the right price, this wouldn't scare me too bad.
